FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How do I ship you my ECU?
A: For riders in the US, we’ll email you a free shipping call tag. Place your ecu in a plastic bag with the air removed and safely pack that into a small sturdy shipping box, do not use an envelope or bubble mailer. Print and tape the shipping call tag to the box and drop it off with the applicable shipping company. Label your ECU with your name, bike year and model. Don't ship your rubber ecu holder boot.
Q: What can I expect from a Taco Moto stock ecu reflash?
A: We’ve invested considerable time, effort and expense to offer a tune and configuration worthy of the Taco Moto name and ironclad guarantee. When you ride one of our tunes you can expect a crisp and clean throttle response, lower engine temps in before and after comparative ride tests, cleaner smoother power, increased power and performance equal to any race ECU. Our enduro map is light years ahead of the OEM enduro soft map and really does it's job in slippery / lose conditions - especially when paired with traction control. All our tunes are put through the beat-down by Mike and the team of cracker-jack test riders in conditions ranging from the deserts of Baja to the high mountain passes of Colorado and everywhere in between. Mike is pretty obsessive about what he puts on the site and these maps are completely worthy of the Taco Moto name.
Q: I see there’s a few other ecu reflash options on the market, why should I go with the Taco Moto remap?
A: We've spent years building a global reputation of rider trust with our service, products and our Baja tested Baja proven philosophy. We also chose to work with Dynojet and their most experienced tuning engineer Dusty Schaller on our remap product, and those guys are the top name in the game for all things engine tuning and performance. In fact they're the only company to offer both a dyno and the integrated tuning software that tie them both together for the best accuracy and performance possible. The partnership of Taco Moto and Dynojet together with the team of industry experts and test riders we've assembled make this an entirely next level option in the ECU reflash game. We're so confident of that, if you don't agree, we'll give you your money back.
Q: I'n not located in the US, will you still email me a call tag for my ECU?
A: Sorry, but the ship-in program is available to US residents only.
Q: What’s the expected wait time for my ecu to be returned?
A: Depending on your proximity to Las Vegas, ground shipping may take 1-5 days. We'll return most ecu's in one business day, however based on seasonal backlogs this may take up to three. You could plan on the same 1-5 days for the return shipping from Las Vegas to you. NOTE that all shipping times mentioned here are ESTIMATED and external impacts like carrier interruptions or unexpected delays due to work force shortages, holidays, weather etc. cannot be anticipated and are not our responsibility.
Q: I’m converting this bike to a Baja 1000 race machine and will be removing the street legal equipment, will I need to worry about the check engine light?
A: No, our tune won’t trip the CEL on any bikes.
Q: What are the areas of the tune that your reflash improves?
A: Depending on the bike make, year and model - tuned areas will include: fuel and ignition calibrations, start up fueling, injector latency scaling, decel fuel cut off, ignition dwell timing, injection timing, feedback fuel, cranking fuel, after start enrichment, decel compensation, global barometric compensation, intake air temp compensation, throttle tip-in settings, sensor scaling, and a few others that are part of our secret sauce.
Q: My bike pops and snaps on decel, will a reflash solve that?
A: Possibly. Most deceleration popping on the Honda dual sport bikes is from the PAIR air injector pump which can be removed in a race bike conversion with our
KITQ: What about removing the t-stat
A: We ride our bikes year around and in all weather and temperature conditions, so for us leaving in the t-stat means a better running bike in any and all conditions. If you primarily ride hard-enduro or in temps above 65-70f you might consider removing it, otherwise leave it in.
Q: Will my fuel mileage drop?
A: Possibly. You’ll be having way more fun on your bike so you’ll likely be riding faster and with more spirited throttle inputs and that will have an effect. But we also have an economy cruise tune and that should keep things similar to stock.
Q: Should I break in my engine before doing the flash?
A: We break in all of our new bikes on a tuned ecu and find it offers better ring sealing and overall engine durability than with the stock tune.
Q: I currently have a piggyback fuel tuner on my bike, when I install the remapped ECU should I remove that?
A: Yes, the tuned ECU will run entirely on it's own and the tuner should be removed.
Q: Will I see any performance or power gains by removing the backfire screen on my OEM intake filter cage?
A: While it's a myth that it will, plenty of riders believe it does. Testing demonstrates that in fact it won't, however ‘placebo power’ is a real thing, so your results may vary.
Q: Do I need to worry about any basic settings like throttle position sensor or idle speed?
A: Not if those things are in factory specification. If the TPS sensor has not been adjusted from the base setting it shouldn't need adjustment or calibration. The idle speed on your bike should routinely be checked and verified as part of your basic maintenance program.
MORE INFOQ: What fuels do we use for our tunes?
A: Fresh 91-93 10% ethanol unleaded
Q: Can I run this tune at high altitude or in a snow bike?
A: Absolutely. The Taco Tune is fully designed for bikes running from sea level to 19,024 feet - which is the highest passable road in the world in Umling La Pass, India. It's also completely ready to go full-send in snow bikes, trail cruisers, Baja 1000 rippers, BDR bikes, Sunday speedsters and anything else in between.
Q: Will this ecu remap void my warranty?
A: The warranty is administered by your local dealer and your relationship with him or her will go a long way in your success with any warranty issue. The remap in itself won’t impact the fitness or serviceability of your warranty, but things like aftermarket mods or parts, maintenance records and general bike condition may. If you have any specific questions about your bike and mods you’d like to make we suggest you discuss those with your dealer and consult your owners manual.
Q: Regarding the 'coming soon' features, when those are available, will I be able to send my ecu back and have those enhanced features programmed in?
A: Yes, we'll contact you via email with notification they've been released and with any applicable information about cost impacts and shipping details.
Q: I've heard that there will also be a 'tune at home' option using the Dyojet PowerVision device. When will that be available?
A: We're currently finishing the details on that program and it should be on the site no later than early April if not sooner.
Q: Do you have an option for express flash / overnight shipping or core swap?
A: Yes, please contact us for more information. You might also consider the ‘tune at home’ program which eliminates the need to remove the ecu from the bike.

RIDER REVIEWS:
"I have been sitting on the sidelines waiting for Taco Moto to come out with this reflash for a while now, since I first heard about it on an RL Facebook group. I've been reading mixed reports about the current (company name removed) reflash product with some low end bogging and hesitation, and since I ride lots of rocky single track and trails that's the part of the power curve I care about the most. So it's now been about a month and I've been riding pretty much every day on my bike as I commute to work and take the long way home since the winter weather here has been so mild. My impressions now in nearly 500 miles is that it was definately worth the wait. With two kids in college there's no way I could justify the GET ecu, as much as I wanted to go that route, but Alex told me I'd be more than happy with this reflash and he's not wrong. I can't believe how smooth the power is off of idle, I have even tested it on some single track trail I would really never ride on this bike normally for the weight and I have to say I didn't hate it. The bike did incredibly well and the lurching and bucking I had before is completely gone. Bravo to the Taco Honda Flash."

“The Taco maps work like a champ. Best option for me vs the much more expensive options out there. Makes the bike run clean and powerful. Thanks guys for your focus and efforts on providing an excellent product.....and kudos on answering the phone when I call, deeply appreciated.”

"After the first ride on my 2025 Honda CRF450RL I immediately regretted buying it. I called the dealer and he told me the fix was a call to Taco Moto in Vegas and talk to them about the Baja bike conversion, so I went with that and the race delete emissions kit because as a matter of fact this is my Baja Tecate bike. Just got back from our trip, running American and Mexican gas from 4,500 feet to sea level and no issues at all. Bike fires right up, idles good and smooth and totally RIPS! Really fast with the Pro Circuit slip on."

"I ordered the TacoFlash from Taco Moto for two reasons and two reasons only: I didn't want to spend the money for the Vortex and I wanted the bike to run clean. Now I'm super stoked with the smooth power and great sound from my Graves full titanium, which I could not afford to do if I'd bought the Vortex. And no one can see what ECU I have under the seat anyways, but all my buddies can see that smooth titanium Graves setup I got on there now. Really smart compromise suggested by the Taco guys. Thanks boys, now let's go ride."

"My problem with the stock bike was the same as everyone has, snappy power and flame outs. My buddy and I have the same bike and I've just been living with it, and he bought the (company name removed) mail order flash and i thought it was ok. It was plenty fast for sure and that was fun, but I don't race so all that power just makes me worry about speeding tickets if I'm honest. The thing I didn't like was the fell of the first gear at low speeds, it was still bouncy on the power and possibly even laggy when you punch it. My buddy noticed it too when I pointed it out.
So we thought let's order the Taco maps for my bike and compare. I loved how these guys email me a call tag instead of going to the post office and waiting in line to ship it like my buddy had to do.
We've been out riding our local trails and switching between both bikes and honestly we both like the Taco version better because it's much smoother and easier to ride. He's going to call them this week and talk about changing it over. I think he should."

"Let me start off by mentioning that I've met Mike at multiple ride events over the years and every time I had a question or needed help with my bike he and the team were all over it. These guys are a class act all the way. I've been a KTM guy for years and want to change to something else. This year I bought a 2025 CRF450RL and thought I'd make a catastrophic mistake, this thing was snappy, lurchy, stalled and almost killed me on the first ride. Hated this bike, so I jumped onto the forums and over and over the Taco Moto name kept coming up again and again so I sent in my ECU and the guys put in the new maps and on the first test ride it was a completely new machine, the bike is utterly transformed. All the things I hated about the stock bike are gone. The biggest thing I needed was for the power to not be so snatchy and abrupt and that's exactly what I got."

"Everything i've done to my bike from taco moto has been first class, from the oil plug, to the graves exhaust, to the foot pegs to now this ecu flash I have loved it all. Mike's videos are helping me build my bike out and do the things right that I need to do. Fast shipping too."

"In my local ride group we seem to have a plethora of the Honda RL and L dual-sport type bikes so I have the benefit of being able to do my own evaluation ride testing on multiple bikes with multiple mods to see which direction I wanted to go with my own mods on my new bike. Of all the bikes I rode there was one with a Vortex, one with a flash from Taco Moto, one flash from (company name removed), and a piggy back tuner. I've had a chance to ride each one and rank them. The Vortex was good, the bike was fast and that was fun. The (company name removed) flash was good too with some hesitation off the bottom, and the piggy back bike was ok, but nothing special. The Taco bike had the best low end feel which is how I ride, it was smoothest and didn't exhibit as much of the lurching on/off power of the others. Since that's what mattered the most to me that's the one I went with. Not to take anything from the others, they were fine, It's just that for an old man like me I needed smoother over snappy"

"My brother kept telling me, get a Vortex, get a Vortex. He's made of money I guess, but I'm not so I did the lower cost Taco Map for my 2025 CRF450RL. This last weekend he rode it for the first time and coudlnt believe how good it is, and he's now telling our other friend also looking at an RL, get a Taco Map instead. HAHAHAHA."

"Fast, easy, low cost, and fun funriding. My buddies with the fancy ecu's cant believe how good my bike is running now for like hardly any money compared to what they spent. No check engine lights, no problem so far after 1000 miles of hard ridden so far. Buying lots of fuel and tires with money I saved"

"When I bought the honda 450rl in 2024 i was so disappointed in the lack of power. And flame out n stallings, made it difficult to ride and didn't trust it on a jump . And Only rode it 200 miles. Last weekend i rode the bike 200 miles alone because was so much fun now ! Thanks to the re flashing you did. All the bugs are gone - no flame out, no stalling , smoother throttle Thanks again for making it more affordable for us !"
