Thin Air, Lazy Idle
Air drops roughly 3% every 1,000 ft. Less air through your idle gap means the bike sags and stalls up high.

The GET's barometric sensor trims fuel and timing for altitude. It does not touch your idle speed.

Sounds right. The sensor really does fix your mixture on its own. But idle speed isn't a fueling problem, so it rides right past it.
✓ What's Actually True
The baro sensor corrects fuel and timing, not airflow at idle.
Idle is set mechanically, by how far a screw cracks your throttle plate. Thin air still means less air through that gap, so your idle sags even with perfect fuel.

This adds up fast. Trailer down near sea level and rip singletrack up at 9,000 ft on the same tank, and your motor is breathing close to a quarter less air than it was in the parking lot.
Sensor Logic
How Your ECU Reads Your Altitude
Your ECU works out altitude by reading air pressure, and two sensors come into play. The MAP sensor reads manifold absolute pressure, the air inside your intake. A baro sensor reads the actual air pressure outside the bike. The trick: with the engine off at key-on, your intake is just sitting at outside air pressure, so a MAP reading at that moment doubles as a barometric reading.
GET ECU — Reads It Live
- Dedicated baro sensor. Reads outside air pressure continuously, in real time.
- No key cycle needed. Keeps trimming fuel and timing as you climb or drop.
- Tracks you cleanly from sea level to a mountain pass, no re-jetting.
Stock ECU — Snapshot at Key-On
- Reads baro off the MAP sensor during the key cycle. One snapshot at startup.
- That's your reference until the next key cycle.
- Goes stale if you climb. Key on at 2,000 ft, ride to 9,000 without shutting off, and it's still fueling like the valley.
Here's the Catch
All of That Is Fuel. None of It Is Idle.
Whether your altitude reading comes off the MAP sensor at key-on or a live baro sensor, it only ever corrects your fuel and timing. Idle speed is a different animal. It's pure airflow, set by how far a screw cracks your throttle plate open.
These bikes have no idle air control valve, so nothing opens that plate for you when the air thins out. The GET keeps your mixture perfect while your idle still sags. That part is on you and a screwdriver.

Do This, Not That
Do
- Bump idle up before a high-elevation ride
- 4-stroke: use the red idle screw on the upper throttle body
- 2-stroke TPI: add an idle screw / bolt mod for real adjustment
- Re-baseline the stock ECU by keying off and back on when you change elevation a lot
- Set it slightly high so it idles clean at both ends
Don't
- Assume the GET's baro sensor raises your idle for you
- Chase a stalling idle with fuel or mapping changes
- Crank the yellow cold-start knob thinking it's the idle
- Blame the tune for altitude idle sag
- Leave it valley-low and stall every hillclimb
