PV3 Map + License Instructions
Thanks for choosing Taco Moto Co! This guide walks you through getting your custom map and license installed. All you need is your computer and a USB cable, no extra software required. Tap a step to open it. Check off each part as you go if that helps you keep your place.
Plug the PV3 into your bike's diagnostic port.
The diagnostic port is located under the seat. Connect the cable firmly.
Connect the two flying lead wires near the end of the cable into each other.
The wires may be black or orange. Just plug them into each other. Don't skip this.
Wait about 20 seconds. Do not unplug.
The PV3 scans your bike's ECU and shows a standby screen when it's ready.
Screen stays blank, or never reaches standby?
Almost always the flying leads. Check that the two wires near the end of the cable are plugged into each other, and that the connector at the bike is fully seated. Unplug, reconnect both, and give it the full 20 seconds.
Plug the PV3 into your computer using the included USB cable.
Your computer will recognize it as a USB thumb drive. No drivers needed.
If the computer doesn't see it, select USB mode from the PV3's main menu. It won't show up as a drive until you do.
Computer not seeing the PV3?
First thing to check: the PV3 has to be in USB mode. Select it from the main menu. Until you do, the drive won't appear at all.
If it's in USB mode and still nothing, try a different cable and a different port, straight into the computer rather than through a hub. The PV3 mounts like a thumb drive with no drivers, so a known-good cable that still gives you nothing means it's time to email us.
Open your file explorerFinder.
Press Win + E, or click the folder icon on your taskbar.
Click the Finder icon in your dock.
Find the drive called POWERVISION.
It shows up under This PC as a removable drive with a letter, like (D:).
It shows up in the Finder sidebar under Locations, and on your desktop.
Not seeing it? Make sure the PV3 is in USB mode. The drive won't appear at all until it is.
No POWERVISION drive in the list?
Go back to the PV3 and make sure it's in USB mode. That's the usual culprit. After that, try another cable or port, plugged straight into the computer.
Locations
DesktopDocumentsDownloadsLocal DiskPOWERVISIONEvery file we send you goes here.
- PV_INFOHolds PV_INFO.TXT. Take that file out, never put files in.
- MAPSLeave it alone.
- LOGSLeave it alone.
Worth learning now, because the rest of this guide depends on it. Files go on the drive itself, never inside one of the three folders.
Open the PV_INFO folder and drag PV_INFO.TXT straight into a new email.
No need to save it anywhere first. Drag it from the folder right into the message.
Send the email.
Save the .STK file from our email to your computer.
Download it to your Downloads folder or Desktop.
Plug your PV3 into your computer via USB.
The POWERVISION drive appears again, same as before.
Drag the .STK file onto POWERVISION itself.
Drop it on the drive, not inside PV_INFO, MAPS or LOGS.
Not sure you dropped it in the right place?
Open the POWERVISION drive. The .STK should be sitting next to PV_INFO, MAPS and LOGS, not inside one of them. If it landed in a folder, drag it back out onto the drive.
Get this wrong and the PV3 simply won't list the file when you go to flash it.
Eject the POWERVISION drive, then plug the PV3 into the bike.
Right-click the drive and choose Eject. Then connect the PV3 to the diagnostic port, flying leads joined.
Click the eject arrow next to POWERVISION in Finder, or drag it to the Trash. Then connect the PV3 to the diagnostic port, flying leads joined.
Flash the .STK file to the bike.
Find the .STK on the PV3 and follow the on-screen prompts. Keep everything connected until it reads 100%.
If a 338 error pops up, don't sweat it. Just start the flash again.
Hit an error part way through?
A 338 error here is common and harmless. Start the flash again and it usually goes straight through.
Either way, keep the PV3 and the bike connected until the screen says it's finished.
Reply to our email with PV_INFO.TXT attached again.
Yes, the same file a second time. The stock flash changes what's inside it, and this new copy is what we build your license against.
Reconnect the PV3 to your computer, open the PV_INFO folder, and drag PV_INFO.TXT into a reply on the email we sent you with the .STK.
Why am I sending this twice?
Flashing the stock file changes what the PV3 reports about your bike. The first copy told us what to build. This second copy, taken after the stock flash, is what your license gets tied to.
Skip it and the license won't match, so the tune won't load.
License File
.licUnlocks the PV3 for your specific bike.
Tune File
.djtYour custom map, built for your bike.
Save both files, then plug your PV3 into your computer via USB.
The POWERVISION drive appears, same as the last two times.
Drag both files onto POWERVISION itself.
Same as the .STK. On the drive, not inside PV_INFO, MAPS or LOGS.
Not sure you dropped them in the right place?
Both files belong on the POWERVISION drive itself, sitting beside PV_INFO, MAPS and LOGS. If either one ended up inside a folder, drag it back out onto the drive.
Eject the POWERVISION drive and unplug the USB.
Right-click the drive and choose Eject.
Click the eject arrow in Finder, or drag it to the Trash.
Plug the PV3 back into the bike's diagnostic port.
Same as step 1. Make sure the flying leads are joined.
Find the tune file on the PV3 and flash it.
Follow the on-screen prompts. Keep the bike and PV3 connected until it reads 100%.
Something came up on screen?
If you get a FILE CLEANUP screen, choose NO. Cleanup can wipe the files you just loaded.
If an error interrupts the flash, run it again with everything still connected.
You're done. Go rip.
Everything you need is above.
